SPAIN: (recap) European officials are weighing up a bailout programme for Spain that would aid its fragile domestic banking sector while imposing only very limited conditionality on Madrid, a concession that could make a reluctant Spanish government more willing to accept international assistance, the FT reports.
EURO CDS: European stock futures are indicating a modest rise in equities on Thursday morning following a positive performance in Asia as the ECB yesterday signalled that it will be ready to act in response to softer economic data. Also suggestions that Germany is ready to soften it stance on the use of EFSF/ESM funds for banks recapitalisation purposes and hopes of further monetary easing from both the Fed and BoE, have all contributed to this weeks rally. The main focus of today will be the Bank of England's MPC meeting with most analyst expectations of rates to remain on hold at 0.50%, and for the asset purchase programme unchanged at Stg325bln, although some forecasts suggesting there being a possibility of a Stg25bln increase. Corporate news flow is again light today with some of Europe observing Corpus Christi day and the markets waiting on the BOE rate decision and Fed Chairman Ben Barnanke scheduled to testify, which should give an insight into the FED's next move.
CHINA STOCKS: The Shanghai Composite Index ends down 0.71% at 2293.13.
