BUNDS: June Bund futures are sharply higher in early trade, touching an all-time high at 114.03, before drifting. The contract was last 24 ticks higher at 143.91

GREECE: The FT says senior European leaders are attempting to turn the June Greek national election into a referendum on the country's membership of the euro, a high-stakes political gamble that officials believe can win back voters disillusioned by the tough bailout conditions but eager to stay in the single currency.

EUROPEAN STOCKS: Major European bourses are seen trading lower Friday, pressured in the wake of Moody's downgrade of Spanish banks. Spreadbetters Cantor Index are calling the FTSE down 54, the DAX down 46 and the CAC down 20.

EURO-DOLLAR: Middle eastern demand seen added to recovery flows, with traders noting leveraged and real money interest to buy. Opposing is corporate interest. A break of $1.2681 to open a move back toward $1.2700, where level is said to hold decent sized option maturity interest for today's 1400GMT cut. Traders will know that Asian cenbanks were large dollar intervention sellers overnight and could be lurking around, looking to sell back into rally attempts.

SPAIN: Spain's government has hired Goldman Sachs to carry out an independent valuation of Bankia, the stricken bank taken over by the state last week, Spanish daily Expansion reports.
