Huge miss on the outlook and it comes at a sensitive time around the holidays. Might be fiscal cliff related but who knows.

Euro pops to 1.2935 after ECB story

MNI is reporting that “a significant majority” of ECB board members wanted a rate cut yesterday but Draghi, Weidmann, Coeure and Asmussen scuttled it.

The other 18 members were in favor of easing ‘or at least refrained from actively opposing such a move.’

I don’t see why the euro is rallying on this. Even if the dissenters are core members, to me it makes a cut more likely.

Może dlatego właśnie idzie do góry, że Draghi i Weidmann głosowali inaczej: Draghi jest postrzegany jako jedyny gwarant stabilności Euro a Weidmann to głos Bundesbanku. Dwie potęgi przeciwko płotkom.
Jest tylko jeden haczyk: w ECB każdy głos jest równy....

EURO-DOLLAR: Traders eyeing the rebound in the pair ahead of the London close,
euro now tackling reported offers at $1.2950 as shorts from earlier in the day
are squeezed. Traders debating the implications of the MNI report on the
division of opinions on the ECB Governing Council and now running the calculus
for rate cut prospects going forward; will a rate cut be more likely in January
or is it still data dependent?; why did they wait?; who carries more weight and
what does that imply? are some of the questions being pondered.

EURO-DOLLAR: Barclays Capital technical analysts note that Thursday was a "heavy
volume day" in FX. It was "one of the top 10% for the year across all
currencies," they say. For the euro, it was the heaviest volume day since Aug 2,
the day that was the start of "summer doldrums." They observe, "the risk is that
this spike could mark the start of the December doldrums."
