USD/JPY climbs after the cut (o8.04.2013 )

USD/JPY has rallied 25 pips since the options cut.
The S&P 500 is 2.5 points lower, if it can begin to turn higher took for a retest of 99.00.

Couple of sellers around near 99.00 in USD/JPY (08.04.2013)


I guess there must be a few folks content to book a 6 yen gain in less than three trading days…

The pair remains very much in buy-the-dips mode with a very aggressive BOJ providing all the yen pairings with the biggest tailwind in monetary history.

Small bids begin at 98.70/75;
better are at 98.40.

Yen pairs looking at round numbers (08.04.2013)


Everyone’s picking out targets for the likes of USD/JPY. Throw out a number, jst make it big. 110? Sure, why not?

Near-term, 100 is the focus. It is a very round number with lots of “optionality” as the cool kids like to say. That means there are loads of strikes at that level and when you get a big concentration of strikes at a certain level there tends to be a magnetic attraction for price.

130.00 is a similar magnet in EUR/JPY.
GBP/JPY has already hurdled its big number, breaching 150.00.

AUD/JPY has broken 100 on this move but looks to me like it still has some gas in the tank. Take advantage of any dip toward that important level at 100 for a fresh leg higher.

USD/JPY clears out 99.00 area; barriers laddered all the way up (08.04.2013)


But it’s not like the barriers are even providing the usual speedbump in this amazing rally. Barriers are seen every 25 pips starting at 99.25 and up to 100.00. Seems just a matter of time before that level is taken out.

We’re now at 99.15, highest in nearly 4 years.

UPDATE: Traders note whispers of US institutional investors hedging their exposures in Japanese equities. In other words, managers want to be long Japanese equities but don’t want returns hold back by maintaining exposures in JPY. So they are buying the stocks but ditching the yen…

USD/JPY – next barrier is at 99.75 (09.04.2013)

There wasn’t much of a fight at 99.50; even in this relatively thin pre-Tokyo market the sellers ahead of and around 99.50 were easily gobbled up. Next barrier-related selling interest is ahead of and around 99.75.
There is also technical resistance around 99.80/90 before we see sellers again ahead of the 100 level.

There will be plenty of profit-taking sellers between 99.50 and 100 to watch out for – talk is of hedge-fund players leaning against the big round number at 100.
