EURO-DOLLAR: Getting a pop to $1.3145 area as some custodial demand
coincides with a headline that reportedly says ECB pondering ways to use
bondholdings in Greek rescue, though we've not seen first hand. Thin
conditions allowing easy push but euro should encounter resistance ahead
of the morning high at $1.3205 area.
RISK: Friday's non-farm payroll report and strong ISM non-mfg data,
combined with the recent break of various 200-day moving averages in
currencies (Aussie, C$, MXN etc.) and select commodities (gold broke
above 200-day in mid Jan, WTI above since mid Dec) and stocks (S&P 500
broke over 200-day Jan 3) is forcing global investors off the fence.
"They are afraid of missing the boat - in a big way" one trader
explains. With other techs breaking (certain banks stocks breaking above
their 200-day moving average) it is clear that the market is going after
low hanging fruit, trying to get in on the move. On the issue of
"missing the boat," - traders fret that the boat has holes in it
(eurozone economic drag). "I don't even think it has a rudder on it,"
the trader says.
