SPAIN: Spain is only likely to face expulsion in the JPMorgan
Aggregate Euro Index on any potential decision by Moody's to downgrade
Spain's rating by 1 notch to junk status, MNI understands.
1. iBoxx Euro Index: Countries within sovereign index require an
avg country rating of investment grade. Currently the avg iBoxx rating
of Spain is BBB. A potential Moody's 1 notch downgrade to Ba1 leaves avg
at BBB -- no implication. Only 3-notch downgrade leads to expulsion.
2. Barclays European Aggregate Tsys Index: Barcap officials in the
past said say they use the middle rating to determine if the debt should
be retained in the bond indices -- dropping the highest and the lowest
ratings. A 1 notch downgrade will have no implication.
3. JPMorgan Aggregate Index Euro: Uses rating from only S&P and Moody's
- index takes the lowest rating and does not use Fitch ratings. A
potential Moody's downgrade will lead to exclusion from index.
4. Citi European Government Bonds Index: Uses rating from only S&P
(preference) and Moody's. Does not use Fitch ratings. No implication.
RISK: The CBOE's volatility index or VIX holds at 14.77 after
trading in a 14.65 to 14.93 range. Last month, the VIX saw a 13.51
(Sept 14 after the Fed announced QE3) to 18.96 (Sept 4) range and this
month, it has seen a 13.67 (Oct 5 after the NFP report) to 16.79

US: Obama: Value of China currency has gone up in recent years "because we have pushed them hard." Says US exports have increased significantly because of cases brought against China for unfair trade practices.
US: Romney: China does not play by the rules - for example keeping the value of their currency artificially low. Says China has been a currency manipulator "for years and years and years," yet Obama hasn't named it so. Said he would do so on day one of his presidency.
US: heated exchange between Obama and Romney over immigration, with lots of accusations flying but little of substance said.
US: Romney: the policies Obama has put in place -- such as Healthcare act and Dodd-Frank -- "have not let this economy take off and grow like it could have."
US: Obama on China: Romney "that last person" that's going to get tough on China. Notes his admin has brought twice as many cases against China over unfair trading practices as the last administration which has saved jobs. "That's the kind of trade actions that are required," he says.
