China's economic growth is expected to have slowed to 7.5% in Q3 from 7.6% in Q2, and the government is expected to step-up fine tuning and introduce more interest rate cuts.

Talks between Greece and visiting Troika made progress on Saturday, but no deal has yet been reached and the negotiations will resume this week.

The latest KPMG/REC report on permanent placements showed a slight improvement in September rising to 49.7 from 48.4. Venezuela's Chavez has won re-election having taken 54.4% of the vote.

Reserve Bank of Australia has reported that Governor Glenn Stevens has not heard from the Bank of England after reports in the UK Times at the weekend that he was a dark horse contender for King's replacement.

CFTC: Dollar selling - euro buying pauses, while AUD long reduced

Hedge funds and other large money managers gave the dollar a break after many weeks of selling, according to data from the CFTC covering the week ending October 2. The net EUR short positioning, which has been reduced by two-third since the ECB announce its intention to "do what it takes" and introduced the OMT programme, was unchanged last week, as buying interest above 1,3000 seems to be fading.


The aggregate dollar short saw a small reduction to USD 23.4 billion but remains near the most shorted level since August 2011.

The AUD dollar seems to be falling out of favour with the net long positioning, suffering a 30 percent reduction, not least helped by the surprise rate cut by the RBA last week. Speculators still hold a relative large position and further long liquidation has been witnessed following the cut off date for this report.

CAD remains the most favoured currency, as the Bank of Canada remains hawkish followed by MXN being a carry currency.

CFTC: Speculators increasing bullish commodity bets again

Hedge funds and other speculative investors resumed their net buying of commodities during the week ending October 2, according to data from the CFTC covering 24 traded commodities. Both of the major commodity indicies rose duing the week in question, resulting in the net long position of futures and options contracts rising by 1.1 percent to 1,692,000 contracts representing a nominal value of USD 137,8 billion.

Thirteen commodities saw net buying, while 11 were net sold. As seen in the table below the main contributors to this rise were Natural gas, gold and silver while reductions were seen in soybeans, WTI crude and Live Cattle.
