FRENCH PRESS: The financial transactions tax, a topic dear to French President Hollande, did not appear in the final G20 report, says Les Echos. "The fact that France has met barriers to push forward a financial transactions tax is not a surprise (...): more than half of the G20 countries already have a national tax on financial transactions in one form or another", comments Luc Lampriere, CEO of Oxfam France.

CDN..EUROPE: All the major papers pick up on the story around late Tuesday that EU leaders will mull the use of the EFSF/ESM funds to directly buy bonds in the open market in order to push down borrowing costs of the peripherals. The idea was posited by Italian PM at the G20 and the FT says French President Hollande said the idea merited discussion. However, there appeared no firm committment from Germany, although the FT says she "understands the problem."
