Hello

EUROPE: There is a fairly limited calendar Thursday, with UK GDP the
main focus on the European side, with a mix of US data providing the
main components for the remainder of the day. German August construction
orders are due to be published at 0600GMT. At 0700GMT we see the release
of Spanish September PPI. ECB September M3 is due to be published at
0800GMT along with Italian retail sales for the month of August.
Bundesbank Board member Andreas Dombret is due to give a speech in
Dublin at 1145GMT. At 1315GMT, German Finance Minister Wolfgang
Schaeuble is likely to speak in parliament on strengthening of financial
supervision, due to be conducted in Berlin.

GREECE: The Greek government has been urged to hite foreign technocrats
to aid the collection of taxes and the fight against corruption, the FT
says.

GREECE: A new tax bill in the latest austerity package is set to hit
households again, eKthimerini reports. However, the bill will not be
active until 2013 and will not be retrospective for the current year,
the website says.

GREECE: Along with the continued claim and counter-claim over an
extension deal for Greece, eKathimerini says there is still no
agreement amongst coalition parties on a labour market structural reform
deal.

UK: The release of the first estimate of UK GDP for the third quarter at
0830GMT is the singular data highlight for the week. It is likely that
the GDP data will show that a run of three successive quarters of
contraction came to an end in Q3 with analysts forecasting a growth
surge of around 0.5% on the quarter. Such an outturn would be nothing to
shout about as it would mainly reflect a bounceback in activity
following the loss of output resulting from the additional bank holiday
for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee in Q2. UK August Index of Services is
also due to be published at 0830GMT. At 1015GMT, the UK Bank of England
Deputy Governor Paul Tucker is due to deliver a speech in London.
Tucker's speech is to the International Assoc. of Deposit Insurers and
looks set to be another regulatory focused commentary from the official
seen as most likely to take over from King as governor when the latter
steps down in mid-2013.

UK PRESS: After axing a car production plant in Belgium, the Independent
says Ford is set to close a van production plant in Southampton in the
UK.

US: The US calendar kicks off at 1200GMT, with the release of US
September Building Permits Revision. At 1230GMT we see the release of
US 20-October Initial Jobless Claims, which are expected to return to a
more stable range of 370,000 after the wild swings in the last two
weeks, which MNI noted were due to some technicalities in state
reporting. Also at 1230GMT US September Durable Goods orders are due to
be released and are expected to show modest gains in core figures, which
exclude transportation and defence. Headline orders are expected to
surge. Further US data is expected at 1400GMT, with the release of US
September NAR Pending Home Sales. The US EIA Natural Gas Storage report,
for the week ending 19th October, is scheduled to be released at
1430GMT. At 1500GMT, the US October Kansas City Fed Production report is
due. Late US data sees US 15-October Money Supply (M2) due to be
published at 2030GMT. At 2301GMT, the UK October XpertHR Median Pay Deal
is due to be released.

US PRESS: The Washington Post says Republican hopes of capturing the
Senate have been given a boost in recent session, with 10 races now seen
as too close to call. Until recently, wresting control of the Senate
seemed beyond the GOP, but the party has rallied in some areas on
Romney coattails to see an outside chance of winning control of the
100-seat Senate.

EURO-DOLLAR: The Federal Reserve left rates and polices unchanged
yesterday, as expected. Euro-dollar closed in NY at $1.2970, the rate
recovered from a pullback low of $1.2941 after earlier posting a high of
$1.2983. Euro-dollar opened flat in Asian trade and remained in
consolidation mode, before lifting on sharp cross demand to $1.2985. The
rate met a wall of offers and aided by profit take supply eased to
$1.2967. Dip demand led recovery attempts and the pair last traded
around $1.2988 ahead of Europe. Reported large offers seen into $1.3000,
through here opens techs at $1.3006 (5 dma), ahead of more offers at
$1.3020/25 with stops set. Data release light in the US today with
highlights from Initial Jobless claims and Durable Goods, released at
1230GMT.

CABLE: Cable slipped to $1.6017 after the Fed's announcement to leave
rates and policies unchanged, the rate later bounced to close around
$1.6040 as risk appetite increased. Euro-sterling continued heavy in NY
and closed at stg0.8085, the rate recovered from a pullback low of
stg0.8077 after earlier posting a high of stg0.8148. Cable squeezed
lower around the Asian open to $1.6028, before the rate bounced in
tandem with euro-dollar to $1.6045. The pair sat in a tight 10 pip range
for the remainder of the session, before late demand boosted through
resistance to $1.6051 ahead of Europe. Tech resistance seen at $1.6064
(23.6% of $1.5269-1.6309), behind here and stops noted on a break of
$1.6075. Euro-sterling was tied to a narrow stg0.8085-0.8095 Asian range
with very little action to inspire the pair. Traders look ahead to
release of UK GDP data at 0830 GMT. PM Cameron hinted of strong numbers
in yesterday's PMQ's and it's widely expected to show the economy coming
out of recession.

DOLLAR-YEN: Dollar-yen closed in NY at Y79.78 with trade tied to a
narrow 10 pip range. The rate slipped to Y79.73 on the Fed's
announcement to leave rates and policies unchanged, dip demand later
recovered. Euro-yen slipped to Y103.28 after the Fed, before the rate
met support and tracked euro-dollar's extended recovery to Y103.57,
later easing to close around Y103.50. Dollar-yen opened on a bid tone in
thin Asian trade, cross demand extended through the Tokyo fix to print
highs of Y79.95. The rate consolidated gains before dollar made a show
above Y80.00 on headlines from the BOJ that they are considering a
Y10 Tln increase in its asset-purchase program, extending to fresh 4
month highs of Y80.12. Strong offers seen on the topside at Y80.20 and
Y80.35/40 with CTA stops on a break of Y80.40. Strong demand through the
Tokyo fix lifted euro-yen to Y103.85, before the rate eased on profit
take sales. Support met in the dip and aided by dollar-yen's move
through Y80.00, the cross extended to highs of Y104.14. Offers reported
at Y104.20, stronger behind at Y104.50.

JAPAN STOCKS CLOSE: Japan's benchmark stock indices ended Thursday's
session higher, with exporters boosted by the lower yen. The Nikkei 225
was higher by 100.90 points, or 1.13%, at 9055.20. Just ahead of the
close, the broader-based TOPIX was higher by 7.87 points at 751.14.
Preliminary volume in the Nikkei stocks totalled 954 mn shares, with
167 issues higher, 39 lower and 19 unchanged.

GOLD: Spot gold prices are trading in positive territory Thursday after
posting another set of losses the previous day. Spot gold ended
Wednesday's session $5.70 lower at $1701.95 after prices slipped briefly
below $1700/oz almost $100 lower from their 11-month peak of $1795.69/oz
posted in early October. Markets showed little reaction to last night's
FOMC meeting where, as expected, no changes were made to its interest
rate forecast or bond purchase program. Officials said household
spending advanced but the unemployment remains. Gold prices have picked
up from session lows of $1701.40 posted early on during Asian traded
hours and have since advanced to session highs a few moments ago, in
tandem with some early European demand for FX pair euro-dollar which has
moved back higher through $1.3000 despite this weeks dismal PMI for the
eurozone and Germany's weaker than expected IFO report. Spot gold
continues to extend its gains, now trading $1713/oz, up $11.05 on the
session.

OIL: December NYMEX WTI prices are trading higher Thursday after
recovering from their lowest level seen since July during the previous
day. December WTI futures ended Wednesday's session 94 cents lower, or
1.08%, at $85.73 a barrel after supply data from the EIA confirmed that
US inventories rose more than forecast and fuel demand dropped for the
week ending October 19. WTI prices initially slid after the data,
falling to lows of $84.94 a barrel before some profit taking saw prices
recover later on in the session. WTI futures have extended their
recovery so far during the Asian session this morning, advancing from an
intra-day low of $85.62 a barrel to trade to a session high of $86.10 a
few moments ago, moving in tandem with a moderate move higher in FX pair
euro-dollar which continues to recover back towards $1.3000. December
NYMEX WTI futures are currently trading $86.05 a barrel, up 32 cents on
the session.

NATURAL GAS: NYMEX November natural gas futures are trading around
unchanged levels Thursday after posting some slim losses the previous
day. November natural gas futures ended Wednesday's session 8.5 cents
lower, or 2.4%, at $3.45 per million British thermal units (Btu) after
trading in a range between $3.435 and $3.561 per mln Btu. The front
month contract printed a fresh high for 2012 on Monday at $3.648, but
has lost 4.6% so far this week. Prices continue to see some moderate
short-term weakness amid some mild weather this week and a milder
outlook for early November. Forecasts seen earlier this week had
initially been indecisive. Natural gas prices remain cautious ahead of
today's US EIA Natural Gas Storage report for the week ending 19th
October, due to be published at 1430GMT. December NYMEX natural gas
prices have edged their way back to unchanged levels so far today,
recovering from intra-day lows of $3.409 per mln Btu to trade a session
high of $3.452, now currently trading $3.448 per mln Btu.
