Talk of sovereign buyers sub- 1.2600 and the pair rebounded smartly but stalled by the 1.2625 then session highs as US equities plunged 1.5/2.0% at the open. The market was obviously short because the sell off to 1.2610 met heavy bids and as equities regained some ground EUR/USD powered up to 1.2718 highs (Reuters 3000Xtra) on fixing demand. US equities slipped into a 2-way chop and soft European equity closes (-1.3/1.7% major markets) kept a lid on EUR/USD, with decent offers above 1.2700. US equity markets closed -1.34/-1.66%, EUR/USD 1.2675.
