Hello

EUROPE: European data starts at 0700GMT with German Q3 public budget data. This
is followed at 0745GMT by both Q3 detailed GDP data and also consumer spending
data from France.

GERMAN PRESS: In an interview with Bild, due to appear in print on Friday,
German FinMin Wolfgang Schaeuble is reported as saying the "worst of the euro
crises is behind us." He also praised reform plans in France. However, German
media note how Schaeuble appeared to be more positive on the state of the euro
crisis than recent comments from Chancellor Merkel.

FRANCE PRESS: Le Figaro focuses on unemployment figures going into the new year,
in what it describes as "the great fear of 2013".

GREECE: Press, including the UK Telegraph, pick up on the details of a report
from the Greeck central bank, saying four core Greek banks - NBG, Alpha,
Eurobank and Piraeus - need E27.5 billion in recapitalisation funds by the end
of April, as they are "considered crucial to the national banking sector."

US: US data starts at 1300GMT with the November Building Permits Revision. At
1445GMT, the MNI Chicago Report's business barometer is forecast to rise
slightly to 51.0 in December after rising above 50 in November. Other regional
data already released for December have been mixed, with the Empire and Kansas
City surveys suggesting contraction, but the Philadelphia Fed survey posted a
rebound. US data continues at 1500GMT with NAR Pending Home Sales, followed at
1530GMT by the weekly EIA Natural Gas Storage and at 1600GMT by the weekly EIA
Crude Oil Stocks data.

EURO-DOLLAR: Closed in NY Thursday at $1.3240 after experiencing a sharp
pullback to $1.3202 off an intraday high of $1.3284 as rate reacted to negative
Fiscal Cliff comment. Rate had corrected to $1.3249 ahead of the close as House
Speaker Boehner called on House Republicans to reconvene Sunday, boosting fresh
hopes that a compromise can be reached. Rate eased to $1.3231 in opening Asian
trade before Tokyo began buying back into euro-yen. The rally back in this rate,
aided by CTA demand, lifted euro-dollar to $1.3253 (61.8% $1.3284-02) before
momentum faded and it then drifted off to $1.3237 before settling between
$1.3238/48 through the Asian afternoon and into Europe. Rate currently trades
around $1.3245. Demand for euro-yen expected to keep euro-dollar buoyed through
the European morning, as it did Thursday, but the Fiscal Cliffhanger in the US
again expected to rear its head into afternoon trade as political manoeuvring
continues in the attempts to avert the consequences of the US falling over the
edge. Euro-dollar offers remain at $1.3253, a break to expose $1.3265 (76.4%)
ahead of a retest on $1.3280/85. Stronger offers $1.3295/1.3310. Support
$1.3235/30, $1.3220 and $1.3205/00.

EURO-DOLLAR: Asian traders note that BOK and MAS were in overnight smoothing in
their respective currencies, buying dollars, and expected to recycle into euros
during the European session. Rate currently trades around the Asian high of
$1.3253, after extending intraday highs to $1.3257.

CABLE: Closed in NY at $1.6110 having seen a sharp corrective pullback from
$1.6203 to $1.6067 as markets reacted to negative Fiscal Cliff comments. Rate
recovered to $1.6118 ahead of the close as House Speaker called Republican
members to reconvene Sunday which boosted hopes that a compromise could be
reached. Cable marked lows into Asia at $1.6099 before recovering to $1.6122 as
it tracked euro-dollar's stronger recovery. Rate then found a base at $1.6105
before edging back to retest overnight highs into the European session. The
volatility in cable, caused by the thin conditions saw euro-sterling spike to
stg0.82245 in NY, with early trade in Asia consolidating this move between
stg0.8217/23. Sales through the Asian afternoon squeezed the cross back to
stg0.82135 and was holding heavy ahead of Europe. A light domestic calendar in
the UK will keep focus on Fiscal Cliff developments. Cable demand seen at
$1.6105/1.6095, stronger at $1.6080. Resistance $1.6120/35 ahead of $1.6150 and
$1.6170 (76.4% $1.6203-1.6067). For the cross, resistance now seen into
stg0.8225, a break to expose stg0.8245/50. Support stg0.8200, stg0.8185/80.

CABLE: Moves above the overnight high at $1.6123 to extend recovery off NY lows
of $1.6067 to $1.6127. Resistance seen into $1.6135 (50% $1.6203-1.6067) a break
to open a move toward $1.6150 ahead of $1.6170/80.

YEN: Negative comments on the Fiscal Cliff negotiations Thursday acted to drop
dollar-yen back from Y86.15 to Y85.75, but House Speaker Boehner calling
Republicans to a meeting Sunday boosted hopes into the NY close and took rate
back to Y86.12. Euro-yen had seen highs of Y114.32, dropping to Y113.41 before
closing back at Y114.01. Strong demand for both pairs into the Asian session,
with position adjustments seen ahead of next week's Japanese holidays (Dec31 to
Jan3)cited for a major part of the interest, took dollar-yen on to fresh
recovery highs of Y86.64, euro-yen to Y114.70. After the initial exuberance
dollar-yen settled between Y86.35/50 and euro-yen between Y114.35/55, though the
underlying tone remains buoyant but open to Fiscal Cliff comment, as was seen
Thursday. Technical traders refer to the 200-week moving average in euro-yen at
Y114.99 which is seen strengthening resistance into Y115.00. This level is said
to hold option barrier interest and expected to also draw protective selling
ahead.

JAPAN STOCKS CLOSE: JAPAN NIKKEI 225 INDEX ENDS UP 0.70% AT 10395.18

OPTIONS: FX: Option expiries for today's 1000ET cut,

ITALY AUCTION PREVIEW: Italy's Dipartimento del Tesoro concludes its 2012
issuance programme on Friday with tap of its 5-year benchmark 3.50% Nov 2017 BTP
issue for between E2.0bln and E3.0bln and also its 10-year benchmark 5.50% Nov
2022 BTP issue for between E2.0bln to E3.0bln indicative size. Whilst the
political uncertainty ahead of the general elections is a concern, along with
the lack of liquidity ahead of year-end, the auctions are seen underpinned by
strong reinvestment flows due this week from Belgium E7.77bln and France
E5.49bln and ahead of Italy CTZ redemption next week for E11.83bln. In addition,
yesterday's decent 6-month T-bill and CTZ auction showed investor appetite for
its paper remains robust. For comparison purposes, the 3.50% 2017 BTP trades
around same level as it was last sold on Nov 29 for E3.0bln at an average yield
of 3.23% and then covered 1.24 times. The 5.50% Nov 2022 BTP trades at 4.535%
mid-yield and has cheapened by around 19bps since last week. The 5.50% 2022 BTP
was also last sold on Nov 29 for E2.98bln at an average yield of 4.45% and then
covered 1.18 times. Auction results are due around 1010GMT.
